MATTERS INITIATED BY COMMISSION MEMBERS
a. Discussion and yossible action on a draft letter concernine a uronosed ten-lot
subdivision at 255 Hanny Vallev Road in Unincoroorated Alameda County
Ms. Nerland advised that if every letter sent out by staff on potential projects had to go
through Planning Commission and City Council as the final body acting for the City, the
City would likely miss a number of deadlines. In this case, there was some extra time to
submit comments. She noted that Commissioner Sullivan had wished to discuss this
matter.
Chairperson Roberts noted that a reporter had called her about this matter before she had
received her agenda. She noted that it was awkward because she did not receive the
agenda at that time.
Ms. Nerland noted that the agenda must be published and posted ten days before the
meeting; the packets were typically delivered to the Commissioners the week before the
meeting.
Chairperson Roberts found nothing wrong with the letter and was glad it was to be sent.
Commissioner Blank suggested that the language of the letter be stronger. Ms. Nerland
noted that the previous drafts contained milder language. She added that it was important
For cities and the County to maintain a collegial, professional relationship.
THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED.
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, December 8, 2004 Page 15 of 19
