Commissioner Fox advised that the following text should be added after the 3rd full paragraph on
page 8: "Commissioner Fox inquired whether staff had asked that the applicant move the
chain-link fence bordering Stanley Boulevard away from the road and place attractive
landscaping in aneight-to-ten-foot area between the road and the fence. Mr. Iserson indicated
that the applicant had not been asked to do that, and Commissioner Fox expressed concern that
that area should be attractively landscaped as Stanley Boulevard was the gateway to the City."
Commissioner Fox advised that paragraph 2 on page 10 should be changed to read as follows:
"Commissioner Fox °..,.,.,...'°a .w..:..,.'..,.:,... ,.r° ,.w:ia_°..>,...,...a ....a .w°^.° ^':a°^ asked
Mr. Wolfe whether, in his opinion, the water cannons depicted in the description of the
children's pond would pose a safety hazard to children. Mr. Hovis indicated that California Splash had removed the speed slide from its
design and reconfigured the Surf Hill Racer in recent design changes.
Commissioner Fox advised that the 2nd sentence of paragraph 1 on page 27 should be changed to
read as follows: "She believed that the youth should have more options for activities and that the
unknown components of the attractions should be deferred to a future phase or eliminated
entirely so that people could assess them individually."
Commissioner Maas advised that the 1 sc sentence of pazagraph 2 on page 27 should be changed
to read as follows: "Commissioner Maas a~a -°''-°• ° °-•~ -~°'-'°`~`^ voiced her concerns with
the phasing plan and noted that the applicant was very aware of "-° ~'°--•m~^^~^~'^ ^^~^°•~•~^ what
the Commission was looking for with respect to the issues."
Commissioner Maas advised that the last paragraph on page 27, "Commissioner Maas believed
that the Commission's concerns had been fully aired and that it was time for City Council for
consider the matter" should be deleted.
Commissioner Sullivan advised that his amended motion on page 27 should indicate that the plan
would be a definite plan.
Chairperson Roberts advised that the 5`h full paragraph on page 26 should be modified to read as
follows: "...She did not believe that the project would produce that kind of noise. She ivet~Id
was impressed by discussions that California Splash had with the
Youth Master Plan Implementation Committee and noted that the kids had wanted an activity
like this. She was impressed that they had discussed moral, behavioral, and crowd control issues
so that it would be afamily-friendly place. Ideally, she would have preferred that Ske-ivet~
l~this issue was te-l~referendable at a future date, but not at this point. She did not agree that
options on the East Side should be limited at this point. She noted that any housing on the East
Side would need an enormous sound wall similaz to that in California Reflections because of the
PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES January 14, 2004 Page 2 of 22
