ORDINANCE NO. 332 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 309 <br />(ZONING ORDINANCE) PROVIDING FOR SUSPENSION <br />SIDEYARD, FRONT AND REAR YARD SETBACKS IN <br />ALL RESIDENTIAL ZONES FOR CONSTRUCTION OF <br />FALL-OUT AND BLAST SHELTERS ENTIRELY BELOW <br />THE GROUND SURFACE. <br /> <br /> The City Council of the City of Pleasanton does ordain <br /> <br />as follows: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. Article 18.000 (exceptions and modifications) <br />of Ordinance No. 309 (Zoning Ordinance) adopted April 25, 1960, <br />is hereby amended by adding Section 18.700, to read as follows: <br /> <br /> 18.700 Lot location and area requirements for residential <br />districts shall be and are hereby suspended for a period of 180 <br />days after adoption of this amending ordinance for the sole and <br />exclusive purpose of allowing construction of family fall-out <br />and blast shelters where the following provisions are met: <br /> <br /> a. No appliance or structure shall protrude above the <br /> <br /> ground surface. <br /> <br /> b. The structural requirements of the City Building <br /> <br /> Codes are satisfied. <br /> <br /> c. The City Engineer approves the proposed lot loca- <br /> tion of said shelter. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2. The Council hereby declares that the national <br />interest and the civil defense requirements at federal, state <br />and local levels make construction of such facilities vital to <br />the health, safety and welfare of the people of the City of <br />Pleasanton. The existing zoning permitfvariance and conditional <br />use permits otherwise required, are cumbersome and tend to hurt <br />and delay the local civil defense program. The Council does <br />hereby declare that this ordinance be=cma an emergency measure, <br />for the interim period of 180 days, effective immediately upon <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
