THE CITY OF ~ <br /> <br />pL£A$&NTON City Council <br /> Staff Report <br /> <br /> February 15, 2005 <br /> Economic Development <br /> <br />SUBJECT REQUEST FROM TRI-VALLEY BUSINESS COUNCIL FOR <br /> REGIONAL ECONOMIC STUDY <br /> <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br /> Approve the request from the Tri-Valley Business Council for $25,000 to <br /> assist with the development of a regional economic study, and appropriate <br /> the funding from the General Fund (General Government Department). <br /> <br />SUMMARY The Tri-Valley Business Council is requesting a $25,000 contribution from <br /> the City of Pleasanton to help pay for the work done by Collaborative <br /> Economics in developing a regional economic study as the first phase of the <br /> Preserving Prosperity Project. <br /> <br />Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Tri-Valley Business Council was formed in 1992 as a non-profit, private sector group of <br />businesses and organizations located in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, San Ramon and Danville. <br />The Business Council's stated goal is "to assemble, organize and coordinate the talents and <br />resources of the business and professional leadership in the Tri-Valley area for the purpose of <br />assisting the public sector and community in the identification, examination and successful <br />resolution of Tri-Valley issues affecting economic development and the quality of life in the <br />valley." <br /> <br />The City of Pleasanton has supported the Business Council's work in the past. In FY 1996-97, <br />the City contributed $5,000 toward the Tri-Valley Economic Vitality Initiative; those funds were <br />matched by a grant from PG&E. In September 1998, the City Council authorized a $20,000 <br />contribution toward funding the Business Council's Tri-Valley Vision 2010 Project. The <br /> <br />SR:05:056 <br /> <br /> <br />
