CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 05- <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING CITY OF PLEASANTON FIRE STATIONS AS <br /> SAFE SURRENDER BABY SITES. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors is recommending the expansion of the 2001 <br /> Safely Surrendered Baby Law by including fire stations in Alameda County in their list <br /> of safe surrender sites. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Safely Surrendered Baby Law authorized the Alameda County Board of Supervisors <br /> to designate locations where a parent or guardian having lawful custody of a newborn <br /> may confidentially surrender their newborn, without fear of criminal prosecution. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, infants delivered to fire stations will be examined and transported to the appropriate <br /> receiving facility. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the use of fire stations as Safe Surrender Sites for newborns is part ofa statewide effort to <br /> reduce the tragic consequences of infant abandonment. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, fire personnel will receive training and materials that will allow them to properly <br /> respond if a newborn is surrendered; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, upon the completion of all training by fire personnel and receipt of all Safe Surrender <br /> materials, all fire stations shall be come Safe Surrender Baby sites. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: Council approves the designation of all fire stations as Safe Surrender baby sites. <br />Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THE FOREGOING WAS DULY AND REGULARLY <br />ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, AT A MEET1NG HELD <br />ON FEBRUARY 15, 2005 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers - <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br /> <br />
