NEWS
plot;;

CEC Out front with Design of
Pervious Concrete Paving for
Wo,e, Q~a.,y .n,F,,-.,,ome~ ,

CEC has taken the lead with utilizing
pervious concrete in their designs, with
the recen'~ finished Vacavilte Police
Department and Mace Ranch Park in
Davis, and the design of Explodt Science
Building in Davis currently undem~ay.

This "pave133ent that drinks" is designed
with a high porosity which allows water to
flow through it to the subgrade below.
This reduces the runoff from paved areas,
which reduces the need for separate
storm water retention ponds and allows
the use of smaller capacity storm
sewers. As the water percolates through
the concrete and underlying materials, it
is naturally filtered. The water then
irrigates the surrounding foliage and
seeps back into the aquifer, facilitating
recharge of precious groundwater
supplies locally.

These benefits make pervious concrete
an important application for sustainable
construction, and it is a recognized Best
Management Practice by the EPA.}

Sample showing porosity
