6. PUBLIC HEARINGS

a. Z-97-17. Citv of Pleasanton
Application for design review approval to construct a one and two-story, 7,880 square foot
addition to the existing Police Department facility located at 4833 Bernal Avenue. Zoning for
the property is P (Public-Institutional), Civic Overlay District.

Mr. Iserson presented the staff report on the application for design review approval to construct a
7,602 sq. ft. single- and two-story addition to the existing Pleasanton police station. This plan was
previously approved by the Design Review Board; however, due to budgetary reasons the project was
not built. The approval has now lapsed. Because the project is within the Civic Overlay District,
approval is needed from both the Planning Commission and the City Council.

The addition would consist of a two-story addition on the east side of the building and a single-story
addition on the west portion of the building. The addition will match the design and materials of the
existing building. Landscaping will be added to complement the building.

Staff feels that the building is well designed, is attractive, and would complement the existing
architecture; therefore, staff recommends the Commission recommend approval of the proposed
police station addition to the City Council subject to the conditions attached in Exhibit B.

PUBLIC HEARING WAS OPENED

No public comment was made.

PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED

Commissioner Dove inquired if more parking should be added to the plan to accommodate the people
occupying the additional space. Mr. Iserson does not believe there are plans to hire more employees;
the addition will provide more space for current employees working in cramped conditions.

Commissioner Cooper motioned, seconded by Commissioner Lutz, recommending approval of
the proposed police station addition to the City Council, Case Z-97-17, subject to the conditions
listed in Exhibit B.

ROLL CALL VOTE

AYES:
NOES:
ABSENT:
ABSTAIN:

Commissioners Cooper, Dove, Lutz, Wright and Chair Barker
None
None
None

Resolution No. PC 97-10 was entered recommending approval of Case Z-97-17 to the City
Council, as motioned.

c-

Planning Commission Minutes

Page 2

February 12, 1997
