November 8,2004
JobNo. 2648.100
Page 3

The above is a general description of the submrface conditions encountered in the thr~ borings
drilled for this }nvesfigation. For more detailed .description of the s/lbsulf~ee corlditio~$
encountered piease refer m the boring log~.

GENERAL
It is our opinion that, frbm a geotechnical engineering standpoint,, the proposed residence can
generally be constructed as planned, pzovided the recommendations presented in this report are
incorporated into the projects 4esign and construction.~
SITE PRErAI~TION AND GRADING
All site preparation and grading should be peffo, rmed in accordance With the'following
recommendations:
1. Th{ areas t° be graded sh°uld be cleared °f all debris and surface vegetati°n'

2. Actual depths of stripping should be determmed in the field by the geotechnical
engineer..,The, vegetation and organic soil stril~pings may be used as fill in the
landscape moUnd.
3. Areas at grade and areas to receive fill" should~be prepared by scarifying to a
rain/mum-depth of 9 inches, brought to al least percent over optimum moisture
content and compacted to at least 90 p~rcant relative compaction. This preparation
treatment should be performed within.the building footprlnt plus five feet beyond the
"., building footprint and adjacent concrete slabs, including the driveway slab. Relative
compaction refers to the in-place dry. density, of soil expressed as a percentage of the
maximum ch3' density of the same soil, as d'etetmined by the ASTM D1557-00
compaction test methock

4. If z~hes of soft or saturated soils are encountered during excavation and compaction
deeper excavation may be required to expose firm soil This should be determined in
the field by the soil engineer. The contract documents should provide for add-and-
deduct unit prices for overexcavation, impo .rt.ation and placemem of compacted fill to
allow for var/ations in overexcavation quanuues-

5. Ail fill and backfill materials should be subject to evaluation by the soil engineer
prior to use.

6. Fill and backfill materials should be placed in th~ lifts normally 6 to 8 inches
depending on compaction equipment On-site soils used as fill and backfill should be
moisture conditioned to not less than 3 percent abov.e the optimum moisture comem
and compacted to at least 90 percent relative compaction.

.tmcR£CEIVED TIME:Hi~OV. 8.
