I am writing to express my strong opposition to the City
Council’s proposal to close the library 2 days a week and reduce
library collections by 50%.
The library is the most used City facility in Pleasanton. As such, it is
an essential resource for the community, including for myself. I have
a large, noisy family, and the library the ONLY place I can go to study
for free. I rely on the library’s current hours to flexibly study when I
am not working. (I come to the library weekly, during the weekends
AND weekdays, depending on the week.) Any reduction in library
hours and/or materials would impair my ability—and the ability of
other 9 to 5 workers—to do so.
Reducing library access also means limiting opportunities for
students, job seekers, families, workers, and community members
who depend on these amazing, FREE resources. I urge you to do
your duty to represent the people of Pleasanton (many as users of
the library!) and protect the Pleasanton Library by maintaining its
current hours of operations and collections.
Sincerely,
Laura Poikonen
