Page 1 of 9 <br />Item #5 <br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION <br />COMMISSION AGENDA REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />March 13, 2025 <br />Library and Recreation <br /> <br />TITLE: RECEIVE THE PARKS MAINTENANCE AND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE <br />TASKS AND PROJECTS STATUS REPORT FOR JULY 2024 – FEBRUARY 2025 <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br />This report is submitted for informational purposes and summarizes the parks maintenance <br />and landscape architecture tasks and projects from July 2024 to February 2025 so that the <br />Commission remains informed of the status of ongoing park and landscape architecture work. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Receive the Parks Maintenance and Landscape Architecture Tasks and Projects Status <br />Report for July 2024 – February 2025. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Parks Division and the Landscape Architecture Section are within the Public Works <br />Department. The Parks Division works under the Assistant Director of Public <br />Works/Operations and Maintenance, and the Landscape Architecture Section is in the <br />Engineering Division and works under the Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer. <br /> <br />The Parks Division has five park maintenance crews and one median, trails, and open space <br />crew. The “park” crews comprise four to six full-time employees responsible for all aspects of <br />park maintenance in a geographic area. The park crews maintain 46 sites, totaling 385 acres. <br />The “median” crew comprises two full-time employees with responsibilities throughout the city. <br />The median crew maintains 85 acres of medians, 23 miles of trails and trailheads, and 1,016 <br />acres of open space. Each crew submits monthly reports of significant maintenance events in <br />their respective areas. <br /> <br />The Landscape Architecture Section comprises the City’s Landscape Architect and Landscape <br />Architect Assistant. Landscape Architecture works on a range of projects and tasks, including <br />trail and park design and construction, master planning of the City’s trail system, park system, <br />and urban forest, landscape and irrigation renovations, oversight of the City’s Tree <br />Preservation Ordinance, management of the City’s 5 landscape maintenance districts, and <br />plan development review. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br />The below tasks and projects are what parks and landscape architecture actively worked on <br />during the specified time period.
