Guiding Principles and Strategies <br />Guiding Principles <br />Guiding Principle Purpose / Strategy <br />A resilient community <br />Proper species selection (right tree, right place) is fundamental to creating a thriving urban forest <br />that can better withstand extreme heat and unpredictable weather conditions as well as threats <br />from pests and diseases. <br />A community invested in <br />preserving and growing <br />the Urban Forest <br />Educating residents about the value that trees provide and the importance of protecting them <br />through the tree preservation ordinance. Encouraging all members of the community to take a <br />more active role in protecting, preserving, and growing the urban forest. <br />City trees are funded and <br />managed to maximize the <br />benefits for the public <br />The urban forest program needs to have consistent sufficient financial investment and staffing for <br />the City to effectively manage its trees for the benefit of the public. <br />Integrate trees from <br />the start <br />Prioritize the inclusion of trees and green spaces in the initial planning and design stages of every <br />development project to maximize environmental benefits and reduce infrastructure conflicts. <br />Trees should be considered essential infrastructure, not an afterthought. <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4
