CITY OF PLEASANTON URBAN FOREST MASTER PLAN | 53 <br />CONTEXT <br />2.2.4 Community Engagement <br />Community outreach was a key step in understanding and amplifying <br />the voices of Pleasanton’s community. Initiated in the Summer of 2023, <br />community members were engaged in outreach efforts that included the <br />following activities and educational materials: <br /> ƒTwo Online Pleasanton Tree Surveys which were distributed at <br />engagement events using a QR code. The results are presented in <br />Appendix H. (686 responses total) <br /> ƒTabling at community events including farmers markets and summer <br />concerts with educational material describing tree benefits <br /> ƒEngaging the Pleasanton Youth Commission to gather ideas on <br />effective engagement methods for youth <br /> ƒPleasanton UFMP website (ptowntrees.org), detailing project updates, <br />educational materials, public meeting notifications, and other <br />community resources <br /> ƒSocial media outreach through the City of Pleasanton’s channels <br /> ƒAn Urban Forest Summit to inform the community on the status of <br />Urban Forest Management Plan, preliminary tree inventory and canopy <br />cover analysis results, and community perspectives on the urban forest <br />and Pleasanton’s UFMP Vision Statement (approximately 50 attendees). <br /> ƒWorking Group (3 meetings, 8 members) <br />Working Group <br />Meetings <br />The consultant team, seven key City <br />staff, and one business leader formed <br />a working group and met three times <br />during the plan development process. <br />These three meetings provided an <br />opportunity for the consultant team <br />to relay key findings to the working <br />group, get feedback on the draft plan, <br />and discuss and prioritize strategies <br />and actions for addressing current <br />issues and achieving Pleasanton’s <br />future urban forestry goals. The result <br />was the creation of the UFMP’s vision <br />statement, guiding principles, and <br />the strategic, implementation and <br />monitoring plans, which can be found <br />in the next section..
