CITY OF PLEASANTON URBAN FOREST MASTER PLAN | 45 <br />CONTEXT <br />2.1 History <br />Figure 2-1. 1880 Habitat map overlay showing where the historic marsh complex existed before the City was developed <br />Pre-Founding <br />Pleasanton rests in the scenic Tri-Valley area of Alameda <br />County, north of San Jose and east of San Francisco. <br />Pleasanton is surrounded by the East Bay hills to the west, <br />Altamont Hills to the east, and Diablo Range to the north <br />and south. Historically, the Pleasanton area was located on <br />a vast marsh complex surrounded by seasonal wetlands <br />(see Figure 2-1) that supported a mix of open water ponds, <br />freshwater marsh, and dense willow thickets, which provided <br />habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna species.
