I mo ved back to P leas anton in 2019 whe n I had s om e health is s ues . T he gues t par king s po t beneath the m ajes tic Valley Oak gave me fo r the fir s t tim e, dir ect awar enes s that the be auty and e ner gy o f natur e was tangibly ther apeutic. I wis h I could s har e exactly ho w this Valley O ak in par ticular m ade the co nnection that led to a deeply po s itive im pact o n me. I’m not agains t people wanting ho m es in the B ar one’s lo t, but what make s P leas anto n s pecial is the m atur e tr ees , bir ds , cr eeks . It is natur e that ma kes P lea s anton a des ir a ble place to live. I s pea k fr om e xper ience a s I have tr ave led widely (and do dged tr affic) in many co ncr ete jungles wor ldwide. I have a degr ee fr o m UC S B and s tudied ar chitectur e in Ho ng Kong. I wanted to s ee if “infill” building wa s r ea lly a goo d s o lutio n. What I dis cove r e d was hor r ifying. I don’t belie ve hum ans ar e me ant to be living pa cked together , s epar ated fr om natur e. Many s tudies have s hown tha t tr e es im pact co mmunities in me as ur able ways . My mo the r plans to have me inher it her hom e. I want m y life & family to be connected to natur e. We can put up with the tr ains becaus e we have the be autiful O aks . Without them , the neighbor hood will change to a dead, ur ban was teland. It feels incr edibly viola ting to ha ve a S an Jos e ba s ed developm ent co mpany ma ke decis ions that co uld lo wer our pr oper ty va lues and quality of life .
