Date: December 17, 2024
To: Mayor Karla Brown and Councilwoman Valerie Arkin
From: Tri-Valley Air Quality Climate Alliance

The Tri-Valley Air Quality Climate Alliance (TVAQCA) offers thanks to you both for your
many years of service to our community. Your leadership has been invaluable in
supporting Pleasanton residents not only to express concerns about the environment but
also to be proactive about finding solutions. Specifically, we appreciate your taking action
to preserve air quality in our local airshed and to communicate this goal to our residents.

Mayor Brown: Thanks for your help in creating the TVAQCA. We fondly remember the early
meetings held at your office with Councilwoman Testa as we formed our group and
planned for the future. That early support was crucial to our success in establishing
TVAQCA when we couldn’t meet in person during COVID-19.

Councilwoman Arkin: Thanks for your continuous support during your tenure. We were
especially thrilled with your upfront leadership to establish the gas leaf blower ban.
Electrifying landscaping equipment improves our air quality by dramatically reducing local
emissions.

Over the years both of you supported the Energy and Environment Committee’s work on
updating the Climate Action Plan to reduce long-term greenhouse gas emissions. E&E’s
work will help Pleasanton do its part to address air pollution and climate change. We often
have residents tell us they are happy that the Council passed the gas leaf blower ban. Our
surveys also show a desire for other Tri-Valley cities to do the same. Your actions fostered
cleaner air while reducing direct toxic exposure to users of gas leaf blowers. This initiative
is among the many that you both help actualize.

We will miss your presence while looking forward to seeing you down the road, no doubt
continuing to have positive impacts on our community. We extend our deepest
appreciation to you both.

Sincerely,
Laurene Green, Ron Baskett, Ann Brown, Van Rainey, Terry Chang, Phil Bowman, JuNelle
Harris, Tom Edmunds, and our original chair, Bruce Daggy
TVAQCA Oversight Committee

Cc: Elinor Mattern, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, TVAQCA grant coordinator
Kathy Young, CEO, Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance, TVAQCA 501(c)(3) manager
