Page 1 of 2 <br />Item #2 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> <br />August 20, 2024 <br />City Manager <br /> <br />TITLE: APPROVE DESIGNATION OF VOTING DELEGATES FOR THE 2024 <br />CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br />The League of California Cities (Cal Cities) is hosting the Annual Conference of the General <br />Assembly on October 16-18, 2024. At this meeting, membership considers and acts on <br />resolutions that establish policy. To cast a vote during the General Assembly, the City Council <br />must designate a voting delegate and alternate in advance of the conference. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Designate Councilmember Valerie Arkin as the City’s voting delegate and Councilmember <br />Julie Testa as the alternate for the 2024 Cal Cities conference. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The League of California Cities (Cal Cities) engages in advocacy efforts to support local <br />control in the state legislature and other forums, and through strategic outreach to the public, <br />policymakers, and opinion leaders. Every year, Cal Cities convenes a member-driven General <br />Assembly at the Cal Cities Annual Conference where city officials can directly participate in the <br />development of Cal Cities policy. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br />The General Assembly is comprised of voting delegates appointed by each member city; every <br />city has one voting delegate.
