BUENA VISTA TREE SERVICE ARBORIST REPORT Page 3
ARBORIST REPORT, 544 SYCAMORE ROAD, PLEASANTON, CA. 94566 December 2023

Crape myrtle #4 (6”) was a semi-mature
specimen located on the east side of the
existing sunroom, and north of a second crape
myrtle too small to assess at <6” DBH (photo 4).
It was characterized as semi-mature with
structural defects including multiple attachments
at 5’ and an asymmetrical canopy.
The location of the crape myrtles on the Tree
Assessment Map is not exact, but the trees
were within the footprint of the new addition and
will require relocation or removal.
Canary Island pine #6 (16, 15”) was planted at
the northwestern frontage. A semi-mature
specimen, it had poor structure with codominant
branching of the large stems at 4’ with upward-sweeping branch form.
The mid-canopy was thinning and the foliage was browning. The
canopy extended over the driveway to the east. Redwood #5 was
growing close by to the northeast, Overall, it was in 3.0 fair condition
with moderate vigor.
Two valley oaks were planted along the western frontage: #7 (26”)
and #8 (29”). They were mature specimens with poor structure
including trunk leans, codominant branching, multiple attachments,
and asymmetrical canopies. The trees were pruned with directional
cuts to provide clearance for utility power lines which ran through the
tree crowns. Topping cuts were also performed which resulted in
vertical epicormic shoots or watersprouts that arose from the
activation of latent buds at branch wounds. The trees were in 2.5 fair-
poor condition with low-moderate vigor.

Photo 4. Crape myrtle #4 was located to the west of
the existing sunroom, and to the north of a crape
myrtle <6” DBH too small to assess.
Photo 5 (right, above). Canary Island pine #6 was located
at the edge of the property in the northwestern corner.
Redwood #5 was growing into the tree from the northeast.

Photo 6 (right). Valley oaks #7 and 8 were planted along
the western frontage. They both had poor structure with
trunk leans, codominant branching, multiple attachments,
and asymmetrical canopies which resulted from response
growth from directional pruning cuts. Epicormic shoots
sprouted from large topping cuts at the top of the canopies.
