MILITARY EQUIPMENT USE REPORT 2023 <br /> <br />Equipment Name: Penn Arms 37mm Launcher <br />Quan/ty Owned/Sought: 2 owned Lifespan: Approximately 15 years <br />Equipment Capabili/es: Launches 37mm projec'les, can be loaded with six round and with various <br />types of projec'les. <br />Manufacturer Product Descrip/on: The Model L637-1 Launcher is a mul'-shot, spring-advance <br />magazine drum launcher with a six-shot capacity, 6-inch cylinder and smooth barrel. It is designed to <br />deliver less lethal muni'ons. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: The 37mm launchers can be used as a less-than-lethal impact device but <br />are most commonly used as a chemical agent delivery system. They can deliver chemical agents from <br />a safe distance. The launchers may only be deployed by officers who have been trained on their use. <br />Use for chemical agent deployment must comply with Department Policy. The devices are currently <br />restricted to use by members of the SWAT Team. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The ini'al purchases of the launchers were in 2000 and purchase records are not <br />available. <br />Annual Maintenance: None <br />Personnel Cost: N/A. The SWAT team no longer u'lizes the 37mm launchers <br />Legal/Procedural Rules Governing Use: All use of force applica'ons are governed by state law <br />(including Penal Code sec'on 13652) and Pleasanton PD Policy Sec'ons 300 and 308. <br />Training Required: Officers must be trained on use of the launchers by a cer'fied instructor. <br />Other Notes: None. <br />29
