MILITARY EQUIPMENT USE REPORT 2023 <br /> <br /> <br />Shotguns and Muni>ons <br />Equipment Name: Remington Model 870 Less-Than-Lethal Shotgun <br />Quan/ty Owned/Sought: 39 owned Lifespan: Unknown <br />Equipment Capabili/es: Capable of firing “less-than-lethal” 12 gauge beanbag rounds <br />Manufacturer Product Descrip/on: The Model 870 is a pump-ac'on shotgun design that has been <br />around for more than half a century. The receiver is machined from a solid block of American steel <br />and its pump-ac'on makes it the smoothest, most reliable shotgun on the market. <br />Purpose/Authorized Uses: The less-than-lethal shotguns provide alterna've levels of force to <br />overcome resistance when reasonably necessary in accordance with policy and law. <br />Fiscal Impacts: The shotguns were originally purchased between 1988 and 2005. Financial records of <br />these purchases are not available. In 2015, approximately $1800 was spent to refit the shotguns with <br />colored stocks and foregrips to beier iden'fy them as less-than-lethal devices. The current cost of a <br />Remington shotgun is approximately $500. Maintenance costs are approximately $100 annually for <br />cleaning supplies and parts.
