Page 1 of 2 Item #1 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT December 19, 2023 City Council TITLE: RATIFY MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT OF A VICE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL ASSIGNMENTS TO VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2024 SUMMARY Each year the Mayor reviews and revises, as necessary, assignments to various City Council Subcommittees and local and regional boards and commissions. Accordingly, the Council is asked to ratify assignments for 2023. At the same meeting, a member of the Council is selected to serve as Vice Mayor for the coming year. RECOMMENDATION Ratify Mayor's appointment of Councilmember Julie Testa as Vice Mayor and City Council's assignments to various boards and commissions for calendar year 2024. BACKGROUND This item is placed on the agenda in accordance with City Council Rules of Procedure, Section 6.2, which stipulates that in December of each year, the Mayor shall appoint with approval of Council, representatives to serve on Council Subcommittees and on regional boards and commissions for the coming calendar year. At the same meeting, a Councilmember is selected to serve as the Vice Mayor for the upcoming year. DISCUSSION The City of Pleasanton is represented by its elected officials on numerous regional organizations having jurisdiction over policy matters affecting the City. In addition, Councilmembers serve on a variety of Council Subcommittees for the purpose of advising the full Council on other policy matters. Councilmembers have been assigned as close to an equal number of boards as scheduling allows. EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY Not applicable, as this item is an administrative matter of City business.
