14 <br /> THE CITY OF ME M <br /> PLEASANTON CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> November 7, 2023 <br /> Public Works <br /> TITLE: APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF A FREIGHTLINER M2106, WITH 11-FOOT <br /> TREE AND VEGETATION CHIPPER BODY IN THE AMOUNT OF $224,472 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The current chipper truck (Unit # 821) is a 2001 Ford F-650 with a chipper body <br /> attachment used primarily for daily removal and chipping of tree limbs, branches, and <br /> small tree trunks of City-owned trees, shrubs, and bushes. In addition, Unit #821 <br /> responds to tree-related emergencies and is designed for rapid response during storms <br /> and wind events that impact the City's right-of-way and infrastructure. During more than <br /> 23 years in operation, a total of $41,772 has been spent on maintenance for Unit #821. <br /> The standard useful lifespan of a chipper truck is 10-15 years, such that Unit #821 is <br /> included in the replacement schedule this fiscal year. Staff is recommending the <br /> purchase of a Freightliner M2106, DD8 7.7L CYL single-stage engine, Allison 220ORDS <br /> transmission with 11-foot chipper body via Western Truck Fab to replace Unit #821. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the purchase of the Freightliner M2106, DD8 7.7L CYL single-stage engine, <br /> Allison 220ORDS transmission with 11-foot Chipper Body via Western Truck Fab in the <br /> amount of $224,472, which includes a 15 percent contingency. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This purchase is budgeted and funded within the Internal Service Fund (510) - Vehicle <br /> Replacements (R&R) in Fiscal Year 2023/24. <br />
