9
THE CITY OF
 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON-
October
3, 2023
Police
TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT A SELECTIVE TRAFFIC
ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM GRANT AWARD OF $50,000 FROM THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY
SUMMARY
The State of California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) sponsors several grant programs
to improve the safety of the state's streets and highways. The City applied for Selective
Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant assistance to address unsafe driving issues
in the community, and recently received official confirmation that the grant application
was approved. As a result, the OTS has awarded the City of Pleasanton Police
Department a grant of $50,000 for the period of October 1, 2023, through September
30, 2024.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution to accept the Selective Traffic
Enforcement Program grant award for $50,000 from the State of California OTS and
authorize the City Manager to execute all documents, and appropriate $40,000 to
project 17803 in the Operations Grant Fund in FY 2023/24. The remaining $10,000 will
be included in the FY 2024/25 biennial budget.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Acceptance of the STEP grant award will provide $50,000 in funding to augment the
City's expenditures for the enforcement of persons driving under the influence and
through enforcement operations focusing on primary collision factors. This grant will
fund overtime, benefits, and equipment, thereby reducing General Fund expenditures.
No City matching funds are required to accept this grant award. Funds will be
appropriated to the Operations Grant Fund in FY 2023/24 and FY 2024/25 as stated
above.
