that crossed the exiting line near the leak in the middle of Santa Rita Road. The work
included reconnecting the line that was capped when it was put out of service due to the
leaking and installing an isolation valve in the 2300 block of Santa Rita Road The work
also included flushing and chlorinating the line and restoring the pavement. The 12-inch
line was put back in service on July 15, 2023.
Turnout No. 4 on Hopyard Road at Stoneridge Drive
The contractor started work at Turnout 4 on July 24, 2023, installing the necessary
suction and discharge piping onto the existing discharge pipe. The work includes the
removal of an abandoned 12-foot by 8-foot by 6-foot-deep concrete vault and backfilling
the area to create a pump pad; the excavation and relocation of the existing 6-foot by 4-
foot by 7-foot-deep fluoride injection vault; and installation of City-purchased piping,
valves, and fittings. The work will bring the piping to the ground's surface, where the
temporary pump and piping can be connected. The existing sidewalk was removed and
replaced to fit the new piping while maintaining an accessible path of travel through the
job site. Rain for Rent will supply and install the temporary pump and above-grade
piping under a separate contract that will be considered by the City Council.
The City's on-call contractor and staff could not complete the near-term water system
improvements. As DPI, Inc. Has completed similar work as part of the City's Annual
Water Distribution System Improvement Project and has the necessary traffic control,
parts, and equipment to complete the job in the immediate timeframe, staff redirected
DPI to expedite the repairs needed to meet peak summer demands prior to completing
the annual system projects.
Budget
The additional work is estimated at $200,000 and is being completed on a time and
material basis. Additional expenditure and project contingency authorization are
necessary to complete the contract and the Change Order No. 2 work. The original work
has not been fully completed, and it is recommended to maintain the $50,000
contingency to cover potential unforeseen conditions with the original scope of work.
The total Capital Improvement Program budget for the Annual Water Distribution
System Improvements Project, CIP No. 23183, is $1 million. The anticipated total
expenditure for this project, including the additional $200,000, is $619,574 leaving an
unencumbered balance of$380,426. The remaining balance will be utilized toward
renting the temporary pump at Turnout 4 and the design of the interim water
improvements. The funding and anticipated project expenditures are detailed in
Attachment 1.
