BACKGROUND
The City has conducted eight community satisfaction surveys over the past 22 years
(2001, 2007, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2021, 2023). Through a competitive Request for
Proposals process, the City hired Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates in April
2023 to repeat and expand on prior community satisfaction surveys. FM3 Research
conducted the community survey among Pleasanton residents from May 24 — June 7,
2023. Pleasanton residents were contacted via telephone calls, email invitations,
postcard invitations and text invitations. Data was collected by a combination of
telephone interviews and online interviews. A total of 711 interviews were conducted,
with a margin of sampling error of+/-4% (95% confidence interval) for the statistically
valid survey.
DISCUSSION
The survey questions were developed to determine public opinion regarding city
services; most of the questions were retained from the baseline survey to determine
how these results compare with those from previous community satisfaction surveys.
The survey addresses a variety of topics including resident perceptions of the following
issues: Pleasanton' s overall quality of life, top concerns facing Pleasanton, attitudes
toward City government, and contact with City departments and facilities Survey results
are provide with this report as Attachment 1.
Notable survey results include:
• 91% rate quality of life as excellent or good and 89% say the same for the city as
a place to raise children
• 93% feel safe as well, though 21% say crime is their most serious concern
• 78% rate the City's service provision as excellent or good. Respondents are split
on infrastructure planning ratings, though 73% are satisfied with the quality of
development in the city more broadly
• 80% who interacted with City staff were satisfied with customer service.
• Top concerns are housing costs and traffic
• Top priorities residents value include water quality, fire protection, street
maintenance, 911 response, keeping City buildings in good condition, sewer
services, and programs for youth and seniors.
Miranda Everitt, Senior Vice-President of FM3, will present the results in detail at the
City Council meeting (Attachment 2).
bmitted by: Approved by:
amela Ott Gerry Beaudin
Assistant City Manager City Manager
Attachments:
1. 2023 Community Survey Results
2. 2023 Community Survey Presentation
