The second component of the project consisted of preparatory work for slurry sealing,
which was performed under a separate project. The preparatory work included isolated
full-depth pavement repair and crack sealing. A total of 50,000 square feet of distressed
pavement area was removed 4 - 6 inches from the pavement's surface, down to the
roadway aggregate base material, and replaced with new asphalt concrete with the
same thickness as removed. This was done when the pavement had failed in isolated
areas and before the entire street surface was slurry sealed. This is the same repair
method performed on the reconstructed streets and as described above. A total of
7,920 pounds of crack sealant was applied on roadway pavement as part of preparatory
work. Crack sealing involved cleaning the pavement cracks to prepare them for a
sealant, which was then smoothed so that the material was flushed with the existing
asphalt concrete surface.
After the preparatory work, 0.92 million square feet of roadway surface slurry seal was
placed on the following streets:
STREET NAME BEGIN LOCATION END LOCATION AREA(SF)
OWENS DR JOHNSON DR JOHNSON DR 89,815
JOHNSON DR FRANKLIN DR OWENS DR 147,890
FRANKLIN DR JOHNSON DR STONERIDGE DR 141,275
TOM BURNETT LANE STONERIDGE DR JOHNSON DR 13,695
CLOROX WAY JOHNSON DR HOPYARD RD 36,004
OAK VISTA WAY BERNAL AVE VALLEY AVE 54,440
WHISPERING OAK WAY EAST GATE WAY VALLEY AVE 60,825
MILL CREEK PL OAK VISTA WAY EAST GATE WAY 15,240
COTTON MILL WAY EAST GATE WAY OAK VISTA WAY 16,630
EAST GATE WAY WHISPERING OAK WAY VALLEY AVE 35,375
WILD ROSE PL VALLEY AVE VALLEY AVE 12,445
VALLEY AVE LAGUNA CREEK LANE CASE AVE 53,955
•
LAGUNA CREEK LANE VALLEY AVE WEST LAGOON RD 69,345
•
PLEASANT HILL RD N/O CHESTNUT WAY MUIRWOOD DR 46,475
KNOLLBROOK DR PLEASANT HILL RD SPRINGDALE AVE 43,385
FAIROAKS DR PLEASANT HILL RD SPRINGDALE AVE 44,980
MAYWOOD DR FOREST HILL DR SPRINGDALE AVE 33,220
The "quick build" on West Las Positas Boulevard was successfully implemented under
Contract Change Order No. 5. The conversion of traffic lanes into protected bike lanes
has performed as anticipated since completion. The Traffic Engineering Division will
continue to monitor the vehicle and bicycle traffic through this "quick build" area for
future adjustments, if necessary.
West Las Positas Boulevard, between Hopyard Road and Stoneridge Drive, continues
to settle and will require continuous maintenance to keep the road in a drivable
condition until permanent repairs can be designed and constructed. The Engineering
Department will continue to coordinate with the Streets Division to monitor and make
Page 4 of 6
