City of Pleasanton Capital Improvement Program • FY 2023/24 - FY 2026/27 32 <br />The project will increase the intersection capacity, <br />relieve congestion, and reduce local cut-through <br />traffic during peak hours. The project increases safe- <br />ty by implementing a fully protected intersection <br />design and installing bike lanes through the inter- <br />section removing gaps in the bike lanes on Bernal <br />Avenue. <br />Westbound Bernal Avenue at <br />First Street/Sunol Boulevard <br />Intersection Improvements <br />Project Number: 17556 <br />Transportation <br />This project is intended to improve capacity of the in- <br />tersection and create a gateway to the Downtown. The <br />project will include a fully protected intersection with <br />dedicated pedestrian and bicycle facilities, while adding <br />a second westbound left-turn lane from Bernal Avenue to <br />southbound Sunol Boulevard. The project will expand <br />the east leg of the intersection into the Pleasanton Uni- <br />fied School District property and include improvements <br />along Sunol Boulevard to Mission Drive.
