I've had staff tell me they don't know why I am so concerned about this trail. I've already pointed out
the reasons this trail is so important. As for condition, it has good pavement from 1-580 almost to
Stoneridge where for a short distance it becomes crushed gravel, which is dusty in the dry
season. Then there is a very short section of pavement which contains some cracks. Then there are
sections of larger, thicker gravel which is difficult to ride a bike on. There are some sections where
half the width of the trail is gravel and the other half pavement. There are even sections where there
is gravel on top of pavement. The connecting Arroyo Mocho trail is all thick gravel where users need
to stay in pickup tire tracks to stay off thick unstable gravel. It is simply not safe for many users which
discourages use.
Please direct staff to use repair and replacement funds to repair the presumably already existing trail
which should cost $200,000 or less and is far less than many routine repair and replacement items.
This would save Measure BB funds for other safety improvements on our streets.
When people feel unsafe walking or riding then they drive. We need to be encouraging people to get
out of their cars to mitigate traffic and improve the quality of the air that we all breathe.
Thank you.
Sharon Piekarski
z
