THE CITY OF
ATTACHMENT C
MM.! Stoneridge Mall Framework
pL E ASANTONs Public Comments
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL
Provider;k the Planning Commission
After Distribution of Packet
From Sgiert space Date Distributed: 09-2 -2022
To: EmlrCarrol ---._--
Subject: Forth Sub sion-New Farm
Date: Sunday,September 18,2022 6:34:30 PM
Sent via form submission from Staneridge Mall Framework
Name: Tina Hasson
Email _
Message:I read the recent article about the future/potential plans for the Stoneridge Mall area.
I am not in favor in totally building out that area with high density housing,I don't think that
will serve this community well, except for helping meet the state housing mandates imposed
on Pleasanton.Something has to be done with that laud and the unused parking lot areas(most
an eyesore now)and to improve the safety of the mall as it is. It has changed for sure and is
not getting a great reputation as the"outstanding"mall it used to be. I am concerned about
things I hear about increased crime around the mall.
Massive high density buildings, bringing in thousands pf people with thousands of cars and
children who need to go to school and the drought situation with the water available for
"current residents"are big issues. It could become an"asphalt jungle"building out our city
like that as it is going to happen in Hacienda Business Park and all over in vacant shopping
centers and abandoned commercial sites. Not the way I would imagine living in a nice
suburban city like Pleasanton. It will only make the existing homes here more valuable
because they will be in"real"neighborhoods.
As the Pleasanton Weekly mentioned, traffic is a big concern. This city is imposing much
higher use of Stoneridge Dr.as it is with the(not needed)Costco development going in.The
area around the 680 intersection going East or West will be totally impacted. I am really
bothered by that increase in traffic on our city.We all saw how bad the traffic was when all
the offices were occupied mound the mall with workers pouring in and out for work and at
Christmastime when the mall was fully operational, traffic was bad getting in and out of that
area.
I live in a condo community here,I see and approve the water bills. We get one bill per
building, there is no way to monitor who is abusing water usage, high density housing has no
controls over water usage unless each unit can be metered(highly unlikely and expensive).
The city can't provide water to potential new residents when it can't provide water for current
residents without penalties and restrictions. The City Council has to consider the water and
maybe file the injunction to delay the state housing mandates at this time,I read there is a
possibility to do that.
Too close to BART and the freeways to be a"safe"suburban area for families, all these things
need to be considered. The future is not looking good for Stoneridge Mall these days as I see
it.I always felt safe going there until the last maybe four or five years, not the same as it was,
crime is becoming an issue.Parking lots are a mess,Simon never trims the trees, lots are dark
and look shabby.Something has to be done to re-vitalize that area.
Provided 10 Planning( ontmission for the S'eptenrber 26. 2022, meeting
Redistributedfor the December 15, 2022.
