CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 04-074 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING "SENTINELS OF FREEDOM PROGRAM - OPERATION WELCOME HOME" FOR PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the Pleasanton City Council recognizes the sacrifices made by military men and women historically to maintain our freedom and safeguard our country; and WHEREAS, many young men and women from Pleasanton have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces during this critical time in our nation's history in defense of the freedoms we continue to enjoy as Americans; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to honor each member of the Armed Forces from our community who has served or is currently serving at home or overseas, been wounded or died in combat or in the performance of other duties, incurred other service-related disabilities and/or completed enlistment and been honorably discharged from their military commitment; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That the City Council formally adopts the "Sentinels of Freedom Program - Operation Welcome Home", whereby returning military men and women are honored by the City Council with a proclamation in appreciation for their commitment to service to our nation. Section 2: That the City Council encourages community groups, service organizations, employers and other citizens to join the City Council in helping to welcome back our service men and women, thank them for their service and reintroduce them to our community. Section 3: That the City Council envisions that this program will serve as a model to be adopted by other cities across the nation as to the manner in which the City of Pleasanton displays its gratitude toward our returning service men and women.
