CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 04-074 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING "SENTINELS OF FREEDOM PROGRAM - OPERATION <br />WELCOME HOME" FOR PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Pleasanton City Council recognizes the sacrifices made by military men and women <br /> historically to maintain our freedom and safeguard our country; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />many young men and women from Pleasanton have served or are currently serving in the <br />Armed Forces during this critical time in our nation's history in defense of the freedoms <br />we continue to enjoy as Americans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City Council wishes to honor each member of the Armed Forces from our community <br />who has served or is currently serving at home or overseas, been wounded or died in <br />combat or in the performance of other duties, incurred other service-related disabilities <br />and/or completed enlistment and been honorably discharged from their military <br />commitment; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />That the City Council formally adopts the "Sentinels of Freedom Program - Operation <br />Welcome Home", whereby returning military men and women are honored by the City <br />Council with a proclamation in appreciation for their commitment to service to our <br />nation. <br /> <br />Section 2: <br /> <br />That the City Council encourages community groups, service organizations, employers <br />and other citizens to join the City Council in helping to welcome back our service men <br />and women, thank them for their service and reintroduce them to our community. <br /> <br />Section 3: <br /> <br />That the City Council envisions that this program will serve as a model to be adopted by <br />other cities across the nation as to the manner in which the City of Pleasanton displays its <br />gratitude toward our returning service men and women. <br /> <br /> <br />
