15
THE CITY OF
-•• _.t• CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
PLEASANTON,.
November 15, 2022
City Manager's Office
TITLE: CONSIDER AUTHORIZING STAFF TO DEVELOP A CITYWIDE
STRATEGIC PLAN AND CONTINUE IMPLEMENTING THE EXISTING CITY
COUNCIL PRIORITIES FOR FY 2023/24 WHILE THE STRATEGIC PLAN IS
DEVELOPED
SUMMARY
For many years, the current City Council priority-setting process has served to identify
projects and programs to be included in a two-year work plan. Undertaking a
comprehensive citywide strategic plan will allow the current City Council priority-setting
process to be updated toward ensuring the strategic themes and goals that guide the
process broadly represent Pleasanton today and into the future. If the Council
authorizes staff to initiate the development of a citywide strategic plan, it is
recommended that the Council authorize staff to continue implementing the FY
2021/22-FY2022/23 priority projects so that sufficient resources can be directed toward
the strategic planning effort.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize staff to develop a citywide strategic plan and continue implementing the
existing City Council priorities for an additional year (FY 2023-24) while the new
strategic planning process occurs.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
It is estimated that the cost for a comprehensive strategic plan will range between
$85,000 to $100,000. If the City Council authorizes staff to develop a citywide strategic
plan, at a subsequent meeting the City Council will consider approval of a professional
services agreement with a firm who will assist in developing the plan.
