Pleasanton 2022 Legislative Advocacy Outcomes <br /> Under the California Fire Service Training and Education Program Act, the State Fire Marshal is <br /> authorized to, among other things, establish courses of study and curriculum relating to fire <br /> service training, as provided. This bill would require the State Fire Marshal to establish <br /> additional training standards that include the criteria for curriculum content recommended by the <br /> Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee involving peer-to-peer suicide prevention <br /> programming. The bill would require the State Fire Marshal to coordinate with the California <br /> Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program to develop and deliver the curriculum content criteria. <br /> The bill would authorize all paid personnel assigned to field duties in a state or local fire <br /> department or fire protection or firefighting agency to receive the peer-to-peer suicide prevention <br /> training, as provided. This bill would require the State Fire Marshal to make the curriculum <br /> content criteria available to the authority. The bill would make the implementation of these <br /> provisions contingent upon an appropriation by the Legislature in the annual Budget Act or <br /> another statute. This bill contains other related provisions and other existing laws. <br /> Pleasanton Position: Support <br /> Focus Area: Safe and Secure Community <br /> AB 988 (Bauer-Kahan D) Mental health: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline <br /> Would enact the Miles Hall Lifeline and Suicide Prevention Act. The bill would require the Office <br /> of Emergency Services to verify, no later than July 16, 2022, that technology that allows for <br /> transfers between 988 centers as well as between 988 centers and 911 public safety answering <br /> points, is available to 988 centers and 911 public safety answering points throughout the state. <br /> The bill would require, no later than 90 days after passage of the act,the office to appoint a 988 <br /> system director, among other things. The bill would require, no later than July 1, 2024, the office <br /> to verify interoperability between and across 911 and 988. The bill would require the office to <br /> consult with specified entities on any technology requirements for 988 centers. <br /> Pleasanton Position:Support <br /> Focus Area: Sustainable Development <br /> AB 2374 (Bauer-Kahan D) Crimes against public health and safety: illegal dumping <br /> Would increase the maximum fine for the dumping of commercial quantities of waste by a <br /> business that employs more than 10 employees from $3,000 to $5,000 for the first conviction, <br /> from $6,000 to $10,000 for the second conviction,and from $10,000 to $20,000 for the third and <br /> any subsequent convictions.The bill would require a court, when imposing a fine, to consider <br /> the defendant's ability to pay, as specified. <br /> Pleasanton Position: Support <br /> Focus Area: Sustainable Development <br /> AB 2481 (Smith R) Household hazardous waste: facilities: transportation and <br /> acceptance. <br /> Would allow, under certain circumstances, household hazardous waste to be transported to a <br /> household hazardous waste collection facility by a person who did not generate the waste.
