The City applied for Selective
Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant assistance to address unsafe driving issues
in the community and recently received official confirmation that the grant application
was approved. As a result, the OTS has awarded the Pleasanton Police Department a
grant of $50,000 for the period of October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution to accept the grant award for
$50,000 from the State of California OTS and authorize the City Manager to execute all
documents, and appropriate $40,000 to project 17803 in the Operations Grant Fund in
FY 2022-23. The remaining $10,000 will be included in the FY 2023-25 biennial budget.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Acceptance of the STEP grant award will provide $50,000 in funding to support law
enforcement services by assisting the Police Department's expenditures for the
enforcement of persons driving under the influence and through enforcement operations
focusing on primary collision factors. This grant will fund overtime, benefits, and
equipment, thereby reducing General Fund expenditures. No City matching funds are
required to accept this grant award. Funds will be appropriated to the Operations Grant
Fund in fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24 as stated above.
