THE CITY OF 9 <br /> w- -•• .°i° _;'r CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLEASANTON1 <br /> November 1, 2022 <br /> Library and Recreation <br /> TITLE: TAKE ACTION ON TWO CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY GRANTS: <br /> a) ADOPT A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE CALIFORNIA STATE <br /> LIBRARY GRANT FOR ADULT LITERACY SERVICES IN AN AMOUNT <br /> OF $48,639 <br /> b) ADOPT A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE CALIFORNIA STATE <br /> LIBRARY GRANT FOR ENGLISH-AS-A-SECOND-LANGUAGE <br /> SERVICES AND APPROPRIATE GRANT FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF <br /> $61,071 FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022/23 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> As a California public research institution, the California State Library directs state and <br /> federal funds to support local public libraries, as well as statewide programs and <br /> services. The Pleasanton Public Library has applied for and has been awarded two <br /> funding opportunities through the following California State Library grants: a) Adult <br /> Literacy Services and b) English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Services. Acceptance of <br /> these grants will support the Library and Recreation Department's implementation of <br /> literacy and English-as-a-Second-Language services to the Pleasanton community. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> a) Adopt a resolution accepting the California State Library grant for Adult Literacy <br /> Services in the amount of $48,639 (Attachment 1) <br /> b) Adopt a resolution accepting the California State Library grant for English-as-a- <br /> Second-Language Services and appropriate funds in the amount of $61,071 <br /> (Attachment 2). <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> For the Adult Literacy Services grant, $48,639 has been awarded for staff salaries, <br /> literacy materials, and operations. The grant amount was approved in the FY 2022/23 <br /> budget and funds are available in the Library and Recreation Department's budget. <br /> For the English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Services grant, $61 ,071 has been <br /> awarded for staff salaries and literacy materials. Staff recommends the City Council <br /> appropriate the grant funding of $61 ,071 to the Library and Recreation Department's <br /> General Fund budget for FY2022/23. <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br />
