EXHIBIT A <br /> TITLE 20 <br /> BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION <br /> CHAPTER 20.75 UNIVERSAL DESIGN <br /> 20.75.010 Purpose. <br /> The purpose of the chapter is to: <br /> A. Provide consistent,practical,and proven building and design requirements incorporating universal <br /> design to make specified dwellings more usable,visitable, and safer for occupancy by persons with <br /> disabilities. <br /> B. Enhance the full life cycle use of housing without regard to the physical abilities or disabilities of a <br /> home's occupants or guests in order to accommodate a wide range of individual preferences or <br /> physical abilities. <br /> C. Promote and preserve the public health, safety,and general welfare of the people of the City of <br /> Pleasanton including those with disabilities or who may develop such disabilities. <br /> D. Enhance the ability of homeowners or renters to remain in their homes during periods of temporary, <br /> developing, or permanent disabilities or frailties. <br /> 20.75.020 Findings. <br /> Pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Section 17959,the City Council finds that: <br /> A. In 2020,according to the United States Census, 7.5-percent of residents of Pleasanton no living in <br /> an institutional setting had a disability,and for the population over 65 years of age, 29.5-percent <br /> had a disability,which may include any hearing,vision,cognitive,ambulatory, self-care and <br /> independent living difficulty. <br /> B. Such disabilities can affect the ability of an individual to live independently in conventional <br /> residential settings,or to visit the homes of other.Individuals with mobility and other disabilities <br /> may require special accommodations to their homes to continue to live independently, or to"age in <br /> Ip ace". <br /> C. The provisions of this chapter are reasonably necessary to enhance the full life-cycle use of housing <br /> without regard to the physical abilities or disabilities of a homes' occupants or guests, and in order <br /> to accommodate a wide range of preferences any physical abilities. <br /> D.
