Ir.M11.2110111",0CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT PLEASANTON September 6, 2022 Library and Recreation Engineering TITLE: APPROVE LOCATION FOR CRICKET FIELD PLACEMENT AT KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK SUMMARY The 2014 Parks and Recreation Master Plan recommended that the City continue cooperative efforts with youth sports organizations to provide safe and accessible programs. Cricket was specifically mentioned as one of those programs. Based on community input, City Council unanimously supported locating and constructing a cricket field in Pleasanton at its meeting on April 28, 2021. On April 12, 2022, the City Council directed staff to identify a cricket field location at Ken Mercer Sports Park. Staff identified three potential cricket field locations within Ken Mercer Sports Park and then engaged with the community and sports organizations that utilize the spaces. The feedback was presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at its August 11, 2022, meeting at which the commission voted 5-0 to recommend the City Council approve a cricket field located in Option 2 at Ken Mercer Sports Park (Attachment 1). Staff reviewed feedback received from the survey and additional feedback received from the sport user groups at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting and also recommends a cricket field located in Option 2 at Ken Mercer Sports Park. RECOMMENDATION Approve location Option 2 for a cricket field at Ken Mercer Sports Park. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION Approve location Option 2, with an oval layout for cricket field placement at Ken Mercer Sports Park. FINANCIAL STATEMENT Currently there is $500,000 budgeted for this project in the Capital Improvement Program budget, CIP Project No. 22795. One of the City's four on-call landscape architects will be utilized for design work and the contract for construction will be presented to City Council for review and approval.
