Ir.M11.2110111",0CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PLEASANTON <br />September 6, 2022 <br />Library and Recreation <br />Engineering <br />TITLE: APPROVE LOCATION FOR CRICKET FIELD PLACEMENT AT KEN <br />MERCER SPORTS PARK <br />SUMMARY <br />The 2014 Parks and Recreation Master Plan recommended that the City continue <br />cooperative efforts with youth sports organizations to provide safe and accessible <br />programs. Cricket was specifically mentioned as one of those programs. Based on <br />community input, City Council unanimously supported locating and constructing a <br />cricket field in Pleasanton at its meeting on April 28, 2021. <br />On April 12, 2022, the City Council directed staff to identify a cricket field location at Ken <br />Mercer Sports Park. <br />Staff identified three potential cricket field locations within Ken Mercer Sports Park and <br />then engaged with the community and sports organizations that utilize the spaces. The <br />feedback was presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission at its August 11, <br />2022, meeting at which the commission voted 5-0 to recommend the City Council <br />approve a cricket field located in Option 2 at Ken Mercer Sports Park (Attachment 1). <br />Staff reviewed feedback received from the survey and additional feedback received <br />from the sport user groups at the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting and also <br />recommends a cricket field located in Option 2 at Ken Mercer Sports Park. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve location Option 2 for a cricket field at Ken Mercer Sports Park. <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve location Option 2, with an oval layout for cricket field placement at Ken Mercer <br />Sports Park. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />Currently there is $500,000 budgeted for this project in the Capital Improvement <br />Program budget, CIP Project No. 22795. One of the City's four on-call landscape <br />architects will be utilized for design work and the contract for construction will be <br />presented to City Council for review and approval. <br />
