IN THE AMOUNT OF $494,823 FOR THE <br /> ANNUAL SLURRY SEAL OF VARIOUS STREETS PROJECT, <br /> CIP NO. 22504 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> This project consists of placing slurry seal on 920,000 square feet of existing pavement <br /> to prolong the useful life of the existing street infrastructure while providing a safe and <br /> smooth riding condition. Slurry seal is an application of a thin coat of asphalt/aggregate <br /> slurry mixture that seals the road surface. Bids were received on April 27, 2022, and <br /> staff recommends awarding the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, <br /> American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc. in the amount of $494,823 for the <br /> Annual Slurry Seal of Various Streets Project, CIP No. 22504. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications, review the bids, and award the construction <br /> contract for the project to American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc. of <br /> Hayward, CA, for the low bid amount of$494,823. <br /> 2. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the project contract. <br /> 3. Authorize the Director of Engineering to approve and execute contract change <br /> order(s) for a project contingency amount not-to-exceed $49,482 (approximately 10 <br /> percent of the contract) for unforeseen yet necessary related work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> Project funding totals $710,000 with an anticipated total expenditure of$559,908, <br /> including $64,632 for the project contingency and testing services. The funding and <br /> anticipated project expenditures are detailed in Attachment 1. <br />
