The preparatory work included isolated full-depth pavement repair and crack sealing. A total of 60,000 square feet of distressed pavement area was removed 4 to 6 inches from the pavement surface down to the roadway aggregate base material and replaced with new asphalt concrete with the same thickness as removed. This was done when the pavement had failed in isolated areas and before the entire street surface was slurry sealed. This is the same repair method performed on the reconstructed streets and as described above. Generally, the streets that are slurry sealed instead of reconstructed have a better overall condition. A total of 13,500 tons of crack sealant was applied on roadway pavement as part of preparatory work.
