ATTACHMENT 1 <br /> Proclaims <br /> April 30, 2022 <br /> as <br /> ARBOR DAY <br /> WHEREAS, Arbor Day began as nothing more than a seed of an idea in the mind of a <br /> Nebraska tree lover in 1872, where one million trees were planted in celebration of the tree and <br /> our urban forests; and <br /> WHEREAS, since its inception Arbor Day has grown to become a national day of <br /> celebration to raise awareness about the myriad benefits of sustaining a healthy tree population, <br /> locally and nationally; and <br /> WHEREAS, California is home to approximately 150 Tree City USA communities; and <br /> WHEREAS,the City of Pleasanton owns and cares for more than 25,000 trees, and is <br /> committed to ensuring a healthy and environmentally sustainable urban forest throughout the city <br /> now and into the future; and <br /> WHEREAS, trees reduce erosion, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life- <br /> giving oxygen and provide a habitat for wildlife; <br /> NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED the City of Pleasanton does hereby proclaim <br /> April 30, 2022, as Arbor Day and calls upon all residents to support and maintain our city's urban <br /> forest. <br /> DATED this 19th day of April 2022. <br /> Karla Brown, Mayor <br /> Valerie Arkin, Vice Mayor Jack Balch, Councilmember <br /> Kathy Narum, Councilmember Julie Testa, Councilmember <br />
