Executive Summary | 5Pleasanton Climate Action Plan 2.0 <br />Executive Summary <br />Vision <br />This CAP 2.0 looks to not only reduce Pleasanton’s greenhouse gas emissions, but also improve quality of <br />life and public health, cultivate community resilience and adaptability, and promote thriving ecosystems <br />and a vibrant economy now and for future generations. Through an inclusive and equitable process, the <br />CAP 2.0 will position Pleasanton as a regional leader addressing climate change. <br />Targets <br />CAP 2.0 sets a target to reduce GHG emissions to 4.1 MTCO2e per capita <br />by 2030 and work towards per-capita carbon neutrality by 2045. <br />Actions and Strategies <br />Pleasanton’s CAP 2.0 re-envisions what a climate-smart future looks <br />like in the near- and long-term, and how to get there in an efficient, <br />equitable, and sustainable way. It calls for continuation of existing and <br />ongoing environmental efforts, and details 16 new primary actions to <br />be implemented and 9 secondary actions to be implemented as time <br />and resources allow. The actions are designed to address Pleasanton’s <br />most significant GHG emissions sources—transportation (64%), natural <br />gas use (20%), and electricity use (10%)—with ample community <br />benefits beyond emissions reduction. As detailed in Tables 1 to 3, CAP <br />2.0 actions will: <br />• Decarbonize and modernize Pleasanton’s buildings and <br />transportation. <br />• Make it easier, safer, and more enjoyable to travel without a <br />privately-owned vehicle. <br />• Increase water and energy security. <br />• Make the local economy more circular and sustainable. <br />• Beautify Pleasanton while capitalizing on the carbon storage <br />capacity of trees, plants, and soil. <br />• Equip current and future generations with the knowledge needed to <br />act on climate change. <br />• Demonstrate continued City leadership in sustainability. <br />4.1 <br />MTCO2e <br />per capita <br />7.7 <br />MTCO2e <br />per capita
