Natural Systems | 50Pleasanton Climate Action Plan 2.0 <br />Natural Systems <br />Store more carbon on resilient <br />natural landscapes. <br />Natural Systems in Pleasanton <br />Natural systems store significant amounts of carbon in leaves, trees, <br />and soil. There is no estimate currently available of the carbon storage <br />capacity of Pleasanton’s natural systems. <br />• 700 acres of undeveloped open space <br />Performance since 2012 <br />Since 2012, Pleasanton has taken the following steps to reduce GHG <br />emissions via the Natural Systems sector. <br />• Distributed rebates for sustainable land management. <br />• Supported sustainability retrofits of irrigation and landscaping <br />systems. <br />• Replaced or installed xeriscaping. <br />Natural Systems Goal(s) <br />Offset GHG emissions by fostering resilient natural landscapes that <br />improve habitats, ecosystems, and public health. <br />Key Performance Indicators (vs. 2017) <br />Success will be monitored in the Natural Systems sector by tracking <br />progress against the following key performance indicators: <br />• Increase carbon sequestration ~70,000 net MTCO2e in 2030 <br />• Increase tree canopy <br />• Increase trees planted <br />By 2030, 41% of local emissions <br />reductions will come from this sector.
