1 <br />Jennifer Hagen <br />From:Ellen Holmgren <br />Sent:Tuesday, January 18, 2022 11:03 AM <br />To:Mark Mullaney; Mayor and City Council <br />Cc:Pleasanton City Clerk; Ellen Clark; Sachiko Riddle; Becky Hopkins; Jennifer Hagen; Shweta Bonn <br />Subject:RE: Housing Element Update <br />Dear Mark and Janet Mullaney, <br /> <br />Thank you for your email regarding Item No. 12 on the City Council Agenda for tonight, Tuesday, January 18, <br />2022. <br /> <br />This email acknowledges receipt of your email to the Mayor and City Council, the Interim City Manager, and <br />City staff. <br /> <br />Thank you again for your interest in the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br />Regards, <br /> <br />Ellen Holmgren, Administrative Assistant <br />City of Pleasanton <br />  <br />  <br />‐‐‐‐‐Original Message‐‐‐‐‐  <br />From: Mark Mullaney    <br />Sent: Tuesday, January 18, 2022 10:52 AM  <br />To: Mayor and City Council <citycouncil@cityofpleasantonca.gov>  <br />Subject: Housing Element Update  <br />  <br />City Council,  <br />  <br />We are opposed to Site 25 as a potential location to be used to rezone for the redevelopment and construction of 204‐ <br />250 housing units.  Are reasoning is the following:  <br />  <br />1.  There is already significant traffic congestion in the area of First St. and Bernal, so much so that the City has already  <br />approved a redesign of the intersection that will begin in June of 2022 at a total cost of approximately $5.5.  If this site  <br />were approved it would make the redesign obsolete not to mention bring into question the logic behind spending $5.5M  <br />that might have to be redesigned yet again.  One final point is that there is currently significant cut through traffic in  <br />Pleasanton Hills and around second street.  The addition of 204‐254 homes would only add to that issue.  <br />  <br />2.  Building 204 to 250 units in a 10 acre site would not match the neighborhoods to the north, south and east of this  <br />proposed site.  This would make the area look like it was not properly planned out and designed.  The neighborhood  <br />directly north of this proposed site is a named historical neighborhood in Pleasanton.    <br />  <br />3.  The biggest issue we have is the cost of relocating the School District Administration Offices, Village HS and the other  <br />education programs that currently reside on that location.  Additionally there is a sports field and play ground that need  <br />to be accounted for in the design.  The cost of land, architecture and construction would be astronomical and not a good  <br />use of public money.  We need to invest schools district money in students and not administration.    <br />
