of the proposed project will focus on 1) continuing and expanding field
investigation of wildlife occupancy using wildlife cameras and opportunistic
animal track/sign detection. This data will be analyzed during a final Phase III of
this project (not part of this proposal), which will include occupancy modeling to
more clearly understand species distribution and contribution to connectivity
analyses in the Diablo Range and East Bay Hills. In addition,Phase III will include
collaboration with the UC Berkeley IGIS team and Dr. Van Butsic to incorporate
wildlife presence and occupancy data into their current online ALOSC parcel-
prioritization mapping tool. Prior to Phase III proposal submission, deliverables
from Phase II will include a comprehensive report in May of 2023;describing the
methods, findings and conclusions, which will be submitted to the ALOSC as a
report and include a presentation to the Committee. We will also present our
interim findings to the ALOSC Committee intermittently.
We look forward to continuing work with the Altamont Landfill Open Space
Advisory Committee on this vital research. We believe that this project will
improve community and agency knowledge of wildlife movement primarily
through the Diablo Range and secondarily the East Bay Hills. The research will
further provide critical data to improve ALOSC decision making related to the
acquisition of land/habitat that enables connectivity of contiguous lands adjacent
to and on both sides of I-580.
A detailed Scope of Work and Budget are provided in the following section.
Thank you in advance for the opportunity to submit a Phase II Research request
We look forward to consulting regularly with the ALOSC to discuss progress*and
to receive feedback And, we greatly appreciate your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
— levcia.:014400
Fraser Shilling,PhD Katherine Boxer,CEO
University of California Alameda County Resource
Road Ecology Center Conservation District
2
