L
Lp i SANT
DOWNTOWN
ASSOCIATION
December 7,2021
City of Pleasanton Planning Commission,
The Board of Directors for the Pleasanton Downtown Association(PDA)has carefully
reviewed the staff report regarding a permanent parklet program for Downtown and strongly
supports staff recommendations. We are so pleased that our City Council directed staff to work
closely with both the PDA and Downtown businesses to ensure the permanent plan would
provide long term benefit to the businesses and to the community as a whole.
The PDA would like to take this opportunity to champion the approval of a CIP Project in
Downtown to install power in the light poles throughout Main Street. This would allow for
safe and convenient power access for the majority of the parklets as well as address an ongoing
need in Downtown during special events. This has been a need in Downtown for many years,
and the time is right for this to be moved to a high priority on the CIP Project List.
Additionally, the PDA requests that parklets be allowed to be reinstalled on or before March 1,
2022. That will allow nearly 2 months to complete all necessary maintenance and will allow
the businesses to be up and running for the return of spring weather and the 2022 event season
which will kick off in earnest with St. Patrick's Day Brew Crawl tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, March 16,2022.
We are grateful for the time and effort put into this proposed program. The PDA feels that staff
recommendations are in line with the desires of the PDA and the downtown businesses and
that the permanent parklet program will be a tremendous benefit to our entire community.
Best Regards,
Laura Brooks
Interim Executive Director
Pleasanton Downtown Association
