The SRO will operate under the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and
problem solving on school campuses and surrounding neighborhoods.
The SRO will, when appropriate, engage in de-escalation tactics to resolve conflict.
De- escalation is the process of using strategies and techniques intended to decrease the
intensity of asituation including, but not limited to verbal and non-verbal
communication techniques and, when possible, using non -confrontational practices
to gain control.
The SRO, when possible, will make the physical arrest of students outside the presence of
other non-involved students. The objective is to preserve the privacy of juveniles.
The SRO will normally wear a Police Department approved uniform; however, the SRO
may wear other appropriate clothing depending upon the activity in which the SRO is
engaged. A Police Department approved uniform includes the traditional uniform or a
polo shirt and 5.11 style khaki pants worn at the discretion of the SRO and their
supervisor. Representatives of the Youth and Community Services Unit and PUSD
designee(s) will explore the feasibility of alternative uniform options during the 2021-22
school year.
MUTUAL COOPERATION
A.
