Attachment 1 <br />Agreement Between <br />Pleasanton Unified School District <br />and City of Pleasanton <br />This agreement is dated this of 2021, by and between the Pleasanton Unified <br />School District, Pleasanton California, hereinafter referred to as DISTRICT, and the City of <br />Pleasanton, a municipal corporation, hereinafter referred to as CITY. <br />WHEREAS a safe, high-quality equitable education is of benefit to the community and a safe <br />and secure -campus is an essential element for a positive educational experience for all students <br />and staff; and, <br />WHEREAS the safety and the well-being of students and staff on school campuses is a concern <br />shared by both the CITY and the DISTRICT, and a coordinated effort is deemed the most <br />effective and efficient means to provide for campus security; and, <br />WHEREAS, the presence of police officers on school campuses, in addition to basic law <br />enforcement services, provides an opportunity to foster positive relationships between students <br />and the police officers who play a vital role in the community and allows for an array of police <br />services to be provided to both students and staff such as the dissemination of information on <br />police services; the criminal justice system; gang prevention; truancy, and tobacco, alcohol, and <br />drug abuse prevention. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the parties to this Agreement do mutually agree as follows: <br />A. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CITY AND THE DISTRICT <br />The School Resource Program is solely funded by the CITY and the CITY <br />maintains control over the School Resource Officer(s) schedule and availability. <br />The CITY agrees to allocate a total of two officer positions to the School <br />Resource Officer (hereinafter, "SRO") Program to provide a uniformed presence <br />on and around each of the Pleasanton Unified School District high schools and <br />their feeder middle schools. CITY maintains the right to change or alter this <br />agreement, dependent on the needs of the CITY. The SRO function and duties are <br />more particularly described in attached Exhibit A <br />2. The parties recognize that the SRO Program requires services in a unique and <br />special environment and that to work effectively with children, youth and the <br />diverse communities present in the DISTRICT's schools, officers assigned to the <br />program must have the experience, training, temperament, and the desire to do so. <br />While diversity is an organizational and programmatic goal, the CITY will use a <br />selection process in collaboration with the DISTRICT to select and assign officers <br />to the SRO Program whose experience and training indicate that they are the best <br />suited for working with youth, schools and demographics of the parents and <br />families in the DISTRICT's schools.
