ATTACHMENT 1 <br />Proclaims <br />November 14-20, 2021 <br />United Against Hate Week <br />WHEREAS, the United States is a nation of immigrants, whose strength comes from its diversity; and <br />WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States confers equality on all individuals, regardless of race, <br />gender, orientation, religion, or political beliefs; and <br />WHEREAS, in recent years, our communities and our nation have witnessed instances where hateful <br />beliefs, actions, and ideologies have given voice to emboldened hate groups seeking to propagate racist, <br />sexist, xenophobic, and homophobic ideas, as well as other forms of intolerance; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton is dedicated to preventing and opposing hate and bigotry in our <br />community. Safety from hate and intolerance are essential factors in creating inclusion and equity which are <br />vital to building healthy and resilient communities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton seeks to foster a community that celebrates its rich diversity and <br />embraces the many cultures, ethnicities, religions, races, and sexual identities of its residents. Education, <br />compassion, and cooperation are key to unlocking understanding and embracing differences between people; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton will join other Bay Area cities and towns in recognizing United <br />Against Hate Week, as an important step in bridging divisions and strengthening our communities; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Pleasanton City Council hereby proclaims <br />November 14-20, 2021, as United Against Hate Week in Pleasanton, California, and declares its enthusiastic <br />support for United Against Hate activities in our community. <br />DATED this 2nd day of November, 2 02 1. <br />Karla Brown, Mayor <br />Julie Testa, Vice Mayor <br />Jack Balch, Councilmember <br />Valerie Arkin, Councilmember <br />Kathy Narum, Councilmember <br />
