Wendy Schulte, owner of Good Common Sense Naturals, expressed support for ending the program <br /> on September 6. She noted the closures may cause her to lose her business and there have been <br /> damages with the street closure. She feels the parklets are a good alternative to the street closure. She <br /> advised she used curbside pickup last year to keep her business going but was unable to do that with <br /> the street closure. <br /> David Selinger expressed support for extending Weekend on Main until October in the event there is an <br /> expanding COVID pandemic. He believes City Council must give clear direction they are committed to <br /> an event in 2022 should it not be extended. He encouraged City Council to find a way to commit to <br /> solving the problems. <br /> Zac Grant, PDA Executive Director, confirmed PDA is planning to continue Weekend on Main for 2022. <br /> He advised there will be a concert in the park the following weekend if Weekend on Main is sunset. He <br /> reported PDA has a unanimous board decision in favor of the program to finish as planned on Labor <br /> Day weekend and begin again next year on dates agreed to among all the parties that are involved. <br /> Mayor Brown closed public comment. <br /> Councilmember Arkin commented Weekends on Main has helped downtown restaurants but believes <br /> retailers have suffered negative impacts because of it, and with holiday shopping and inclement <br /> weather, is in favor of ending on Labor Day. She has concerns that streets are closed before 1 p.m. on <br /> Friday and requested it be investigated for next year. She requested a solution for the traffic concerns <br /> with Amador High School on Fridays. She supports resuming Weekends on Main in 2022 in a modified <br /> fashion perhaps one weekend per month. <br /> Councilmember Balch expressed support for disconnecting the pop-ups from Weekend on Main. He <br /> agreed parking has been reduced with the parklets and noted parking needs to be addressed <br /> immediately. He expressed support for sunsetting Weekend on Main to begin Concerts in the Park and <br /> other programming. <br /> Councilmember Testa expressed support for all Pleasanton businesses. She supports the staffs <br /> recommendation and will be sad to see it end for the season but knows there is still an opportunity with <br /> the parklets. She is looking forward to Concerts in the Park on Sunday. <br /> Councilmember Narum believes this is the perfect opportunity to support the non-restaurant component <br /> of Main Street and that the City needs to do everything it can. She supports the sunsetting on <br /> September 6 to allow Concerts in the Park and expressed support for Weekend on Main 2022. <br /> Mayor Brown reported that she noted small businesses receive 50% of their business in the fourth <br /> quarter. She reiterated that restaurants are still open but the Main Street will not be closed after <br /> September 6 and encouraged residents to continue to dine and come to Concerts in the Park. Shee <br /> encouraged residents to shop small and shop local on Main Street and downtown. <br /> MOTION: It was m/s by Arkin/Balch to accept staffs recommendation on ending the Main Street <br /> closures on Labor Day and Resuming discussion about what is to come forward in 2022 with the <br /> closures.
