17 <br />THE CITY OF 1411 <br />-11 ..• CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PLEASANTON <br />October 5, 2021 <br />Engineering & Library and Recreation <br />TITLE: REVIEW OF CONCEPTUAL DESIGNS FOR THE ALL -ABILITIES <br />PLAYGROUND AT KEN MERCER SPORTS PARK <br />SUMMARY <br />In late 2017, residents with special needs family members approached the City to <br />request an all -abilities playground in Pleasanton. Community engagement and design <br />work for the project was approved by City Council in September 2020. <br />Together with the design firm, RRM Design Group, staff held six stakeholder meetings, <br />one community outreach meeting, and conducted a survey to gather public feedback. <br />Two conceptual designs were created based on the input received. The designs were <br />shared with the Parks and Recreation Commission in August 2021, the Human Services <br />Commission on September 1, 2021 and the Youth Commission on September 8, 2021. <br />Several other community outreach meetings will be held in the next few months to <br />gather additional feedback. <br />City staff is requesting that City Council review and provide feedback on the conceptual <br />designs. Ultimately, one conceptual design will be created and presented to the City <br />Council for review and adoption, which staff anticipates will be in December <br />2021 /January 2022. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Review the conceptual designs for the All -Abilities Playground at Ken Mercer Sports <br />Park and provide feedback. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The All -Abilities Playground is funded through the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) <br />Project No. 20773. The project currently has a budget of $400,000 for design services. <br />Expenditures to complete the conceptual design services are anticipated to be <br />$115,474, leaving $284,526 for the remaining design services. No funding has been <br />identified for construction. <br />
