BACKGROUND
In March 2018, following a Request for Proposals process, an agreement was entered
into between the City of Pleasanton and TVRT to produce two professional musicals in
the Firehouse Arts Center in fiscal year 2018/19—one in the fall and one in the spring.
Each production contained eight shows with evening and matinee performances. Adult,
child and senior ticket prices were offered for each show. TVRT's first Pleasanton
production of Guys and Dolls closed November 18 and 96% of the available tickets
were sold, generating $58,044 in ticket sales.
Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation—a volunteer
organization dedicated to providing affordable quality theatre, theatrical training, a
showcase for talent, and a cultural experience within the Tri-Valley and East Bay
communities. TVRT is currently in their 37th year of providing professional quality
musical theater and in their 31st year of providing a true community chorus. Attendance
at their various productions exceeded 12,000 people annually before the pandemic.
DISCUSSION
The proposed Second Amendment to the Services Agreement with Tri-Valley Repertory
Theatre extends the contract through June 30, 2022, with adjusted terms that reflect
one professional musical rather than two, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The contract
will not exceed $60,000. If the Second Amendment to the Services Agreement is
approved, TVRT's Spring 2022 production will be Damn Yankees, and run from the end
of April through mid-May at the Firehouse Arts Center.
Given the very high quality of Tri-Valley Repertory Theatre's work and their outstanding
success as a local Pleasanton business for 37 years, staff recommends extending the
contract for FY 2021/22.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved
Heidi Murphy Tina Olson Nelson Fialho
Director of Library and Recreation Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
