Purpose of the Housing Element <br />State Housing Element Law <br />• Intended to require that jurisdictions <br />can accommodate growth and <br />identify sites for their "fair share" of <br />affordable housing <br />• Recognizes housing as a critical <br />need; the government and private <br />sector must work together to <br />address it <br />• Cities are not required to build or <br />initiate housing projects, but ensure <br />zoning capacity exists to build <br />housing <br />PLEASANTON. <br />9 <br />What is the Housing Element? <br />The Housing Element is a required <br />1pl^_� <br />=13 section of the City's General Plan.
